Baseball takes series opener vs. UNC Greensboro

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball took on UNC Greensboro on Friday afternoon, opening a three-game set with the Spartans. The Norse collected 19 hits and 14 runs, earning a series-opening victory.

GAME SUMMARY
– NKU took a three-nothing lead after two innings, before the Spartans came alive with a pair of homers in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Peter Krumins gave NKU back the lead in the fourth, with a bases-loaded double that drove in three runs. The Spartans got a pair back in the fourth on an HBP and a sac fly, before NKU took a 7-6 lead in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI groundout. The Norse put up two more in the sixth, as Jake Paulick hit a solo shot in the inning. The Spartans drew within one in the seventh, but Gabe Stout finished off the game with a two-and-a-third inning save, allowing zero runs while on the mound. Alex Brazer's grand slam in the eighth provided some comfort as the Norse took game one by a score of 14-8.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– NKU threw four pitchers, with EJ Miramontes getting the start. He threw 3.1 innings, allowing six runs while striking out three. He was relieved by Gannon Wentz in the fourth, who pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning and notched the win. Tannis Lange threw 2.2 innings while striking out three, allowing a pair of runs, before Gabe Stout notched his second save of the season, allowing just two baserunners over 2.1 innings. 
– Offensively, the Norse put up big numbers, recording 19 hits and scoring 14 runs, hitting seven extra-base hits. NKU drew four walks and a pair of HBPs to boot. All nine Norse in the lineup recorded a hit on the day, with six going for multiple hits. 
Mark Nowak batted 4-5 with a home run, a walk, and two runs scored while stealing a base. 
Ethan Thomas finished a perfect 4-4 from the plate with a double, RBI, walk, and scored a pair of runs. 
Jake Paulick finished 2-4 with a homer, walk, and three runs scored.
_ Marcus Harrison went 2-4 with a double, a stolen base, one run, and one RBI.  
Josh Williams batted 2-5 with a walk and a double, scoring a run. 
Pierce Bauerle hit 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
