Baseball drops road contest to Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball headed down to take on Tennessee on Tuesday night, looking to bounce back from four consecutive losses. The Norse hit a pair of three-run homers that kept things interesting, but Tennessee pulled away in the eighth as NKU dropped the away game 12-6.

GAME SUMMARY
– The long ball was the story of the contest, as both teams combined for six home runs, scoring 13 runs off dingers. Tennessee opened it up in the first with a two-run shot, before adding a solo homer in the second. Hunter Friedberg tied things up in the third with a three-run shot before the Volunteers slowly built another three-run lead. In the seventh, Ethan Thomas launched a three-run shot to tie the game at six, but a six-run eighth from UT saw the Volunteers pull away for the win. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Northern Kentucky threw seven pitchers in the game, as MJ Castaneda got the start, throwing two innings of three-run ball. Lefty Tannis Lange relieved Castaneda in the third and threw 2.1 innings, allowing a pair of runs while striking out two. Elijah Green got two quick outs in five pitches to end the fifth before Gerald Hanson pitched a scoreless sixth. Gannon Wentz got by in the seventh, but loaded the bases in the eighth before being relieved for Gabe Stout, who saw six runs cross home plate while on the mound, though all were unearned. Ryan Gill gott he final out of the inning. 
– NKU's bats finished 6-33 from the plate with three walks and 11 strikeouts. 
– Ethan Thomas finished 2-4 with a three-run homer and two runs scored.
– Hunter Friedberg batted 1-3 with a three-run homer. 
– Josh Williams went 1-4 with a double.
