Baseball falls in Horizon League Finale to Wright State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball wrapped up its series with Wright State on Sunday, looking to take the series after splitting the first pair of contests. NKU led by as much as six in the contest, but gave up big innings in the fifth & ninth to fall 17-10.

GAME SUMMARY
– NKU scored three runs in the first, one in the second, and three in the third, while Norse starting pitcher EJ Miramontes allowed just one Raider run over the first three innings. The Raiders struck with a big fifth inning, though, scoring seven to take a one-run lead. NKU got two back in the sixth, taking a 9-8 lead on an RBI single from Alex Brazer. The Raiders tied it up in the seventh with a solo homer, before a seventh-inning RBI double from Landon Springmeyer gave NKU the lead right back, making it 10-9 Norse. Wright State poured it on late, though, scoring eight unanswered to end the game. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Miramontes was one of two effective pitchers for the Norse, as the NKU starter threw 3.2 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out one. The only other Norse to not allow multiple runs was Jared Teke, who was excellent in 1.2 innings to allow just two baserunners while allowing no runs. 
Landon Springmeyer led the Norse with a 3-5 day at the plate, hitting a pair of doubles and a homer as he scored twice and drove in two runs. 
Josh Williams batted 2-3 with three walks and a double, driving in one run and scoring twice while stealing three bases. 
Marcus Harrison batted 2-6 with three runs batted in and a steal. 
Ethan Thomas finished 1-2 with a homer, two walks, two HBPs, and two RBI. 

UP NEXT
NKU heads to Kentucky on Tuesday for a 6:30 first pitch with the Wildcats.
