Springmeyer delivers walk-off RBI as Norse topple Elon in 10 innings

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball survived a back-and-forth slugfest on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Elon, 12-11, in 10 innings at Harley Park. The Norse built an early seven-run advantage before Elon stormed back to tie the contest with a three-run ninth inning. In the bottom of the 10th, Mark Nowak doubled to begin the frame before Landon Springmeyer delivered the walk-off RBI single to left field, securing the victory for NKU.

GAME SUMMARY
– Elon struck first in the second inning after a balk allowed a run to score, but the Norse answered immediately with a five-run bottom half. Hunter Friedberg tied the game with an RBI single before Alex Brazer gave NKU the lead with an RBI knock. Jake Paulick capped the inning with a two-run single to push the Norse ahead 5-1.
– The Phoenix cut into the deficit with a three-run homer from Vince Fattore in the third, but NKU again responded in the bottom half. Brazer delivered the biggest swing of the inning, reaching on an error that allowed three runs to score as the Norse extended the lead to 8-4.
– NKU added two more in the fourth on Ethan Thomas' two-run single and pushed the lead to 11-4 in the fifth after Brazer plated Friedberg with an RBI single.
– Elon slowly chipped away, scoring twice in the sixth, once in the seventh and once more in the eighth to pull within 11-8 entering the ninth inning.
– In the ninth, the Phoenix loaded the bases before Jackson Alford cleared them with a game-tying double to center field, evening the score at 11-11.
– Elon threatened again in the 10th, loading the bases with one out, but Cody Little entered and stranded all three runners to keep the game tied.
– In the bottom of the inning, Nowak doubled down the left field line before Springmeyer delivered a walk-off single to left to seal the 12-11 victory for the Norse.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– NKU totaled 11 hits and drew five walks while taking advantage of three Elon errors.
– Brazer paced the Norse offense, batting 2-for-4 with five RBI.
– Thomas finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

– Paulick recorded a hit, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
