NKU Baseball drops Horizon League Championship opener to Milwaukee

FAIRBORN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball opened up play in the Horizon League Championship on Thursday, taking on second-seeded Milwaukee in the opening round. The Norse took an early lead but were doomed after allowing nine runs in the fifth inning and weren't able to muster a comeback.

GAME SUMMARY
– NKU took a first-inning lead on an RBI single from Ethan Thomas, but the Panthers evened the score in the bottom half on a solo home run. NKU took another lead in the second on an RBI single from Alex Brazer. Northern Kentucky held steady for a few innings before Milwaukee broke through with a massive fifth inning, plating nine. The Panthers cruised to a double-digit victory. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN 
– EJ Miramontes got the start on the mound for the Norse and threw four innings, allowing five earned runs, five hits, and four walks, while striking out four. Elijah Green and Gannon Wentz each gave up four runs in their appearances, while Gerald Hanson and Will Franklin finished off the game allowing one run between the two of them. 
– NKU batted 7-34 in the game with just one walk. The Norse did not record an extra-base hit. 
– Ethan Thomas led the Norse with a 3-4 outing, batting in one run.

NKU continues play in the Horizon League Championship on Thursday night, taking on the loser of Wright State/Oakland at 7 PM ET.
