NILES, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball wrapped up the series with Youngstown State on Sunday, looking to take the series after splitting the first two games. Northern Kentucky took a lead in the seventh inning and held on late, as a solid performance out of the bullpen lifted the Norse over the Penguins.

GAME SUMMARY
– YSU took the lead in the third inning, scoring on an RBI double and a solo homer that chased Norse starter
Cody Little from the game. Thankfully for the Norse, the rest of the pitching staff put in a solid performance to allow just two earned runs over the final six and two-thirds. NKU tied it up in the fifth on a solo home run from
Alex Brazer, and took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single from
Zach Pomatto. NKU got a pair of insurance runs in the ninth via a two-run homer from
Jake Paulick, and despite using four pitchers in the ninth, the Norse got it done for a 7-4 victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Northern Kentucky used seven pitchers in the contest, as
Cody Little got the start and struck out three batters while allowing two earned runs in 2.1 innings.
Tannis Lange was excellent in relief, going 2.2 innings with five strikeouts, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Jared Teke earned the win with 1.2 hitless innings, where he also didn't allow an earned run. Teke moved to 3-1 on the year.
Gabe Stout threw 1.1 innings, allowing a solo home run but striking out a pair of batters.
Gerald Hanson finished off the game, retiring the only two batters he saw to earn his first save of the season.

Jake Paulick led an NKU offense that batted 12-34 with five extra-base hits, as the Norse backstop batted 3-4 with a two-run homer, a double, a walk, and three runs scored.
