EXTRA BENEFITS
An extra benefit is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or a representative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete's relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation.
You MAY NOT:
1. Accept professional services (i.e., doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) at a reduced rate or at no charge that is not available to the general public.
2. Receive a fee for speaking engagements. You may receive actual and necessary travel expenses when speaking to educational or charitable groups.
3. Be involved in any promotion of commercial products or services. This being the case, it is not permissible for any student-athlete with eligibility remaining to sign autographs at commercial establishments. NCAA rules permit student-athletes with eligibility remaining to sign autographs at NKU sponsored events.
4. Receive free use of a vehicle.
5. Receive a free or reduced rate for off-campus housing.
6. Receive anything of value (i.e., meals, drinks, apparel, cover charge) based on your status as an NKU student-athlete.

OUTSIDE COMPETITION
Student-athletes must obtain prior written approval from the Director of Athletics or designee prior to practicing or competing in an event while not representing the institution during or between terms of the regular academic year. Outside competition forms must be received by compliance 48 hours prior to the start of the competition.
Individual Sports
For individual sports, anytime a member of a NKU team wishes to participate in a competition while not representing the NKU, the student-athlete is competing unattached. An unattached competitor cannot:
• Wear/use NKU apparel that includes NKU identification;
• Receive expenses from the NKU; and
• Receive instruction from an NKU coach.
Team Sports
For team sports other than basketball, a student-athlete may compete outside of the declared playing and practice season as a member of an outside team in any non-collegiate, amateur competition during any official vacation period at the NKU. In the sport of basketball, a student-athlete may not compete in any organized competition except when representing the NKU in intercollegiate competition (except Certified Summer Leagues).
