Former West Virginia University standout Darris Nichols is in his second year as an assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University.
Nichols, a native of Radford, Va., earned four letters at West Virginia and emerged into one of the top point guards in the Big East his final two years. He averaged 10.7 points per game as a senior under the direction of head coach Bob Huggins and led the Mountaineers to a 26-11 record.
As a junior, Nichols dished out 4.6 assists per contest and averaged 10.9 points per game as West Virginia posted a 27-9 record. He later played professionally overseas before returning to serve as a graduate assistant at West Virginia.
“Darris has been associated with one of the nation’s top programs in West Virginia as a player and a coach, and he is a great addition to our staff,” NKU head coach Dave Bezold said. “He was an outstanding point guard in the Big East, and he knows how to win. West Virginia won at least 20 games in each of his four years while he played, and we’re glad to have him in our program.”
