Kellen Smith joined the Northern Kentucky University men's basketball staff as graduate assistant for the 2016-17 season. He comes to NKU after playing for Saginaw Valley State University, where he started 105 games and set numerous records.
Smith is SVSU's career assist leader, while also holding the single-season assists mark for the Cardinals. During his senior campaign in 2015-16, he led SVSU to the GLIAC regular-season championship before advanceing to the NCAA Elite 8. Smith was also an academic all-conference honoree as a senior.
A native of Covington, Kentucky, Smith was a 1,000-point scorer at Scott High School (Taylor Mill, Ky.). His brother Ryne ran cross country and track for NKU from 2007-2011.
