Kurt Young is in his fifth season as the top assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University.

Young arrived at NKU after spending three years as the top assistant coach at Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys posted a 23-9 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2008-09.

A 1990 graduate of East Carter High School, Young earned four letters in basketball and was a three-time all-district and an honorable mention all-state selection. He then played one season at Centre College before transferring to Morehead State University, where he did not play basketball. Young, who was a student assistant coach at Morehead State, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in social science in 1995.

Young was an assistant coach and an assistant athletic director at Hawaii Pacific in 2005-06. Before Hawaii Pacific, Young spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown (Ky.) and spent three seasons as the head basketball coach at Labette County (Kan.) Community College.

Young was an assistant men's basketball coach and a physical education instructor at Tallahassee Community College before spending the 1997-98 season as an assistant coach at Northwestern State (La.), an NCAA Division I school.

Following his stint at Northwestern State, Young spent two seasons (1998-00) as the head basketball coach at Thomas (Ga.) University. While at Thomas, Young compiled a 42-22 overall record and was named the 1998-99 NAIA Division I Southeast Region Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the National Coach of the Year honors that same season.

Young is married to the former Lauren Hansberry of Indianapolis, Ind.
