Matt Rea was hired as the Director of Basketball Operations at NKU in 2019. In his first year, Rea served as Director of Basketball Operations when the Norse finished in second-place in the Horizon League regular-season as well capturing its third Horizon League Tournament Championship. Rea oversees areas such as team travel, facilities, budgeting, program scheduling, community service and housing for the men’s basketball program.

Prior to NKU, Rea worked at 2U, Inc., from March 2015-June 2019, where he was a part of the admissions team, specifically working with University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education and American University’s Kogod School of Business. Rea received two promotions due to his strong sales record. Rea also was a sports broadcaster part-time, calling men’s and women’s basketball as well as football for Catholic University in Washington, DC, along with football and softball at Princeton University.

Rea spent one season at East Coast Prep in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he coached the running backs. Rea mentored Walter Fletcher, who was an NCAA Division II All-American at Edinboro and spent a year at Ball State University. Fletcher now plays in the CFL for the Edmonton Elks. As a football player at Middlebury College, Rea was the starting tailback and leading rusher for the 2013 NESCAC Champions. In the final game that clinched the title, Rea rushed 21 times for 118 yards and recorded a receiving touchdown as well.

Rea is a native of Summit, New Jersey, and has two brothers, Joseph and Anthony. His parents are Judy and Franco.
