It is an exciting time for Northern Kentucky University Athletics as Vice President and Director of Athletics Christina Roybal announced the hiring of Shayla Myles-Aaron as the first head coach in school history for the brand-new Norse stunt program.Â
Myles-Aaron is no stranger to Highland Heights as she began as a volunteer assistant coach in 2007 and has served as the head NKU Cheerleading coach since 2010. Â
While leading NKU Cheer, the squad won third place at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) College Nationals in 2023. The Norse also brought home a third-place national title in 2018 in the Division I All-Girl category. Previously the team competed in the Division II class, where they earned the number one spot in the nation for Small Co-Ed in 2007, 2009 and 2010.Â
"We are extremely pleased to introduce Shayla Myles-Aaron as the first coach for NKU's stunt program. From her experience cheerleading to her collegiate cheerleading career, we know we have the right person to lead the program and introduce the sport to our Northern Kentucky community."Â
To go with her success with the Norse program, Myles-Aaron, a two-time national champion cheerleader herself, is a two-time graduate of Northern Kentucky University. She earned her bachelor's in physical and health education in 2007 and followed it up with a master's in early childhood education in 2021. Myles-Aaron is also a certified coach with USA Cheer.Â
Prior to joining the Norse, Myles-Aaron was a Cheerleading and Dance Coach with Premier Athletics for 10 years. She also served in the United States Army Reserves and spent time with the University of Louisville Color Guard and Pep Band.Â
Myles-Aaron started cheering when she was just seven years old for the Erlanger Lions Recreational League. She also became one of the youngest coaches in the area, as she began her coaching career at the age of fourteen. She served a one-year stint as Assistant Coach at Lloyd Memorial High School during those early years.Â
She left Lloyd Memorial and the cheerleading community for a period of time to serve her country as she was deployed through the Army Reserves. After returning from deployment, Myles-Aaron was hired as Head Coach of the Campbell County High School cheerleading program. She coached at Campbell County for six years, taking the squad to KAPOS where they won Regionals and placed fourth overall in the state-wide competition.Â
Â
Most recently, while also assisting at NKU, Myles-Aaron coached at Ryle High School along with several all-star cheerleading teams through the tri-state area.Â
Myles-Aaron officially began her new role with NKU on Monday, February 12. Â
