MACON, Ga. – Northern Kentucky University's Logan Spurlin was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team, the league announced on Tuesday.

Spurlin finished his first season at NKU with a .271 batting average, which ranked second on the team.  He saw action in 41 games this season, including 37 starts, and made the transition from the catcher to first base later in the year.  He hit a team-high four home runs and collected 19 RBIs, 15 runs and five doubles.

“We are very excited that Logan made the all-freshman team for the A-Sun,” NKU head coach Todd Asalon said.  “It is an honor well deserved because Logan really worked hard to make himself a solid player.  Logan takes baseball very seriously, and it is good to see that all of his hard work on the field, in the weight room and in the batting cages has paid off.”

The 6-foot-4 true freshman from Evanston, Ill., hit his first career grand slam on April 3 against Ball State in the sixth inning and followed that with an RBI single in the eighth to help lead the Norse to a 10-9 victory.

He ended the season on a high note, going 5-for-11 (.455) with three doubles, two runs, two walks, one double and one home run in the series finale against Mercer.  Spurlin recorded a .538 on-base percentage and .818 slugging percentage.

Stetson's Patrick Mazeika earned Freshman of the Year honors after leading the Hatters' offense with a conference-high .392 batting average.  Chesny Young of Mercer was named the A-Sun Player of the Year, while East Tennessee State's Kerry Doane received Pitcher of the Year accolades.  After leading Mercer to its first A-Sun regular-season title, Craig Gibson was named Coach of the Year.
