What Laura did this week: Painter assisted on both NKU goals as the Norse defeated Quincy, 2-1, in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Down 1-0 early in the second half, Ashley Warndorf drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box, allowing Painter to serve a ball in to Amanda Mason, who headed home her 10th goal of the season to tie the game. A short time later the Norse earned a corner kick, which Painter served to Kendall Day for the game winner. Painter now has nine assists on the season.
Interesting fact about Laura: Painter is a transfer from Indiana State and has worked hard to secure her spot in the starting lineup. She has played in 19 of NKU's games, starting 10 of those. She has developed into NKU's set-piece specialist, taking virtually every corner kick and deep free kick.
Up next: NKU, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, will face Grand Valley State next weekend for the Midwest Region championship. The game will be played on Friday in Denver, Colo., at Metropolitan State of Denver. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The winner of the NKU/Grand Valley match will take on the champion of the Central Region two days later in the National Quarterfinal.
