Norse clinch 16th consecutive 20-win season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Kelsey Wesaw and Kim Nemcek combined for 31 kills and eight blocks Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team reached the 20-win mark for the 16th consecutive season with a four-set victory against Drury.

NKU improved to 20-3 overall by posting an 18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 win at Drury in Weiser Gym. The Norse, ranked 23rd nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, also upped their Great Lakes Valley Conference record to 10-1.

Wesaw finished with 16 kills, three blocks and hit .355 for NKU, which extended its winning streak to 11. Nemcek added 15 kills, 12 digs and five blocks for the Norse, whose 11 consecutive victories are the most since 2004.

Kristina Eisenmenger slammed down 14 kills, while teammate Annie Lucas added seven kills, four blocks and a .538 hitting percentage. NKU setter Natalie Forbes collected a double-double with 51 assists and 13 digs.

Chelsea Clark (15 digs) and Katie Latenser (10 digs) anchored the back row for the Norse, who limited Drury to a .212 hitting percentage. NKU attacked at a .218 clip for the match after hitting -.029 in the first-set loss.

Drury dropped to 9-11 overall, 5-6 in the GLVC.

NKU travels to Louisville, Ky., on Tuesday night to play Bellarmine at 7 p.m. That match was originally scheduled for Sept. 16 but was postponed due to power outages in Louisville.

The Norse will also compete in the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover next Friday and Saturday at Indianapolis, Ind.
