Clark helps Norse dig path to win against Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. - Sophomore libero Chelsea Clark recorded a career-high 41 digs Tuesday night as Northern Kentucky University defeated Wheeling Jesuit in four sets.

Clark added two service aces and keyed a solid defensive effort for NKU, which won by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21. The Norse improved to 12-3 overall with the non-conference road victory and have won 11 of their last 12 matches.

NKU also remained perfect (10-0) all-time against Wheeling Jesuit, which dropped to 5-7 on the season.

Kim Nemcek and Megan Dooley each collected 19 digs for NKU, which totaled 108 in that category. Nemcek also added 10 kills and attacked at a .562 clip.

Kristina Eisenmenger, who was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, finished 17 kills and a .361 hitting percentage. She now has 1,454 career kills, which ranks eighth in school history.

Kelsey Wesaw added 16 kills and hit .303 for the Norse, who overcame a first-set loss to notch the win. NKU jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the opening set, but Wheeling Jesuit roared back with a 15-4 run to take a 25-21 victory.

Wheeling Jesuit held a 22-21 lead in the second set, but NKU closed the stanza with a 4-1 run. Wesaw capped the set by slamming down a kill to tie the match at a set apiece.

NKU used a 10-2 run to close out the third set, and the Norse rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the fourth stanza. Natalie Forbes, who finished with 49 assists for the match, served up a key ace in the fourth set to extend NKU's advantage to 23-18.

NKU resumes to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday night with a road match at Southern Indiana. The Norse return home the following day to host both Glenville State (noon) and Urbana (4 p.m.) in Regents Hall.
