LANSING, Mich. – Kim Nemcek recorded 21 kills and hit .421 as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team pulled off a 27-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21 upset against No. 23 Hillsdale (Mich.) at the Great Lakes Valley Conference/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover on Saturday.

Nemcek also added 13 digs and four blocks as NKU improved to 16-9 and finished 1-2 at the two-day event. The Norse hit .252 and served up nine aces to defeat the Chargers (17-5).

Jenna Schreiver finished with 49 assists and five service aces for NKU. The Norse built a 21-16 lead in the opening set, but Hillsdale rallied to tie it at 23-all. The teams traded points until consecutive kills by Sarah Drennen and Nemcek gave NKU the 27-25 win.

Drennen collected 13 kills and attacked at a .310 clip. Noelle Peterson added 14 kills for the Norse, who are 4-1 all-time against Hillsdale. Shelby Buschur contributed six kills and hit .500 for NKU.

Chelsea Clark led the defense with 19 digs, while Schreiver added 11 digs. Clark was also named to the regional crossover's all-tournament team for her two-day performance.

NKU resumes GLVC play Friday with a road match at Saint Joseph's at 8 p.m. The Norse are currently 6-2 in the GLVC and tied with Missouri-St. Louis for third place in the league standings.
