NKU volleyball unable to halt Indianapolis winning streak, falls to 'Hounds in three sets

INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown on Saturday.

Indianapolis, which won by identical scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-18, held NKU to a .069 hitting percentage for the match and coasted to its 14th consecutive victory. The Greyhounds, who are ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, improved to 28-1 overall, 9-1 in the GLVC.

Kristina Kerrigan collected 13 kills to lead Indianapolis, which attacked at a .290 clip. Kim Nemcek finished with 11 kills and hit .310 for NKU, which dropped to 17-10 overall, 7-3 in the GLVC.

After NKU battled back to tie the first set at 14-all, the Greyhounds used an 11-4 run to take a 25-18 victory. Indianapolis then bolted out to a 7-2 lead in the second set and cruised to a two-set advantage.

Indianapolis jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set and held off NKU to cap the sweep. The Norse rallied to within a point (15-14) in the third set, but the Greyhounds countered with a 5-0 spurt to extend their advantage to 20-14.

Noelle Peterson recorded eight kills for NKU, while teammate Sarah Drennen added seven kills. Jenna Schreiver finished with 28 assists for the Norse, and Chelsea Clark led the defense with 14 digs.

NKU returns home to meet Illinois-Springfield at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Norse conclude their home season next Sunday at noon when Quincy visits Regents Hall.
