The NKU volleyball team ended its season Friday with a loss to Rockhurst.
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team watched its season end Friday night during a four-set loss to Rockhurst in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
Emily Levy and Katy Hernandez each collected 11 kills as fifth-seeded Rockhurst (21-13) avenged an early-season loss to fourth-seeded NKU (20-12) with a 25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 25-20 win against the Norse. Maggie McGovern added 10 kills for the Hawks, who limited NKU to a .117 hitting percentage.
Kim Nemcek finished with 16 kills, 14 digs and six blocks for NKU, which lost in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
Noelle Peterson added 14 kills for the Norse, and teammate
Kelly Morrissey collected 11 kills.
Jenna Schreiver dished out 47 assists served up three aces for NKU, while teammate
Chelsea Clark finished with 14 digs. Rockhurst's Loretta McGovern collected nine blocks. Levy added six blocks for the Hawks, who attacked at a .342 clip in the fourth set to hold off NKU and advance to the GLVC Tournament semifinals.
Earlier this season, NKU had posted a five-set win against Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo.
Nemcek, a junior middle hitter, finished the season with a team-leading 455 kills. She also hit .317 and collected 266 digs this fall. Nemcek led the Norse with 95 total blocks and added 34 service aces.
