NKU will attempt to snap a three-game losing streak Thursday night.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team plays host to Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. Thursday in The Bank of Kentucky Center in a non-conference game.
NKU is 3-3 going into Thursday's contest and has lost three consecutive games. Thursday's game will not count in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings as the teams are in different divisions this season.
NKU is a member of the GLVC East Division, while Saint Joseph's is in the GLVC North Division. The two teams will meet in a GLVC game Jan. 30 at Rensselaer, Ind.
Saint Joseph's is 2-5 overall and snapped a 50-game losing streak earlier this season. NKU owns a 37-13 series advantage against Saint Joseph's.
NKU will continue its homestand Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Saint Francis (Ind.).
TOP NORSE: NKU sophomore guard
Casse Mogan is scoring 15.8 points per game and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per contest to pace the team. Mogan has scored in double figures in all six games this season and tops NKU with 18 assists.
Mogan has made 90 percent (36-for-40) of her free throws and is No. 1 on the team with 13 steals.
CARMACK FROM LONG RANGE: NKU junior guard
Jessie Carmack is shooting 51.7 percent from 3-point range. Carmack buried five 3-pointers en route to a 15-point performance against Southern Indiana last Saturday.
For the season, Carmack is 15-for-29 from 3-point range. She averages 9.3 ppg and has 10 assists.
SOLID WEEKEND: NKU senior guard
Rachel Lantry averaged 14.5 ppg in the team's two losses last week. She netted a career-high 17 points during a 59-53 loss at Indianapolis, and followed that up with 12 points on Saturday as NKU dropped an 85-76 decision at Southern Indiana.
Lantry averages 9.8 ppg and leads NKU with six blocked shots.
THE LAST TIME AGAINST SAINT JOSEPH'S: On Feb. 21, 2009,
Jessie Slack scored 19 points and dished out three assists as NKU posted a 53-40 win at Saint Joseph's.
Karen Brackman added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Kendra Caldwell finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Norse.
Saint Joseph's held a 25-22 lead early in the second half. NKU responded with a 13-0 run to take a 35-25 advantage on Slack's basket with 11:31 remaining in the game.
Danyelle Echoles scored five points during the NKU spurt, while Slack and Caldwell each netted four points.
NKU has defeated Saint Joseph's four straight times. The Pumas last win against the Norse came on Feb. 22, 2007, at Rensselaer, Ind., by a 65-58 score.
DOMINANT AT HOME: NKU has beaten Saint Joseph's 16 consecutive times at home. Saint Joseph's has not defeated NKU on the road since Feb. 13, 1993, when the Pumas pulled out a 67-65 win against the Norse in Regents Hall.
