NKU volleyball plays host to West Virginia State at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Regents Hall

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team plays its home opener Tuesday night when West Virginia State visits Regents Hall at 7 p.m.

The broadcast of that match can be heard live on the Internet at www.nkunorse.com. In addition, fans are asked to park in Lot S (the gravel lot next to the Albright Health Center), as a parking fee of $2 will be charged for each match this season.

NKU enters Tuesday's match with a 4-4 overall record, while West Virginia State is 3-5. The Norse posted a 1-3 record at the North Alabama Classic last weekend at Florence, Ala. On Saturday, NKU defeated host North Alabama in five sets before dropping a four-set decision to California (Pa.).

In the win against North Alabama, sophomore outside hitter Sarah Drennen recorded 19 kills and attacked at a .417 clip as NKU rallied from a two-set deficit. Drennen also added seven digs and four blocks for NKU, which hit .400 in the fifth set to pull out the win. With the fifth set tied at 11-all, the Norse's Kim Nemcek hammered down three kills to key a match-ending 4-1 run.

Nemcek, a junior middle hitter from Geneva, Ill., finished with 15 kills, nine blocks and nine digs.

NKU/WVSU HISTORY: NKU owns a 4-0 lead in the all-time series with West Virginia State. A year ago, NKU swept past West Virginia State, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, at Charleston, W.Va. Sarah Drennen recorded six kills and hit .455 in that win against West Virginia State.

WVIAC DOMINATION: NKU is 32-0 all-time against teams from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

LEAGUE FAVORITES: West Virginia State and Wheeling Jesuit are the preseason co-favorites in the WVIAC. The Yellow Jackets were 15-0 in the WVIAC last year and claimed the regular-season title. Despite not winning the WVIAC Tournament, West Virginia State earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament in the Atlantic Regional.
