Late second-half spurt lifts Rockhurst men to 70-64 victory against NKU on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Aaron Hill scored 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out five assists to lead Rockhurst to a 70-64 win against Northern Kentucky University on Saturday.

Jawan Davis added 13 points as Rockhurst improved to 10-5 overall, 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Jazz Neal scored 10 points off the bench for the Hawks, who defeated NKU for the first time in history.

Going into Saturday, NKU had beaten Rockhurst in the previous six meetings.

Chris Knight scored 14 points to lead NKU, which dropped to 8-7 overall, 1-5 in the GLVC. David Palmer added 13 points and six rebounds for the Norse, who shot 52.1 percent from the field.

NKU held a 49-48 lead with 6:33 remaining in the game after a basket by Palmer, but Rockhurst used a 10-2 run to build a 58-51 advantage with 2:45 left on the clock. Hill and Davis keyed the Rockhurst spurt with back-to-back conventional three-point plays.

The Hawks eventually built a 10-point lead and held on to send NKU to its third consecutive loss.

Scott Bibbins and Corey Sorrell each finished with nine points for NKU, while teammate Tony Rack added eight points.

NKU returns to action next Saturday when Wisconsin-Parkside visits The Bank of Kentucky Center for a GLVC game at 3:15 p.m.
