NKU volleyball hits road to meet No. 11 Lewis in GLVC showdown Friday night

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team meets No. 11 Lewis this Friday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown in Romeoville, Ill.

NKU, which has won six consecutive matches, is 13-7 overall, 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis is 13-2 overall, 5-1 in the GLVC.

NKU concludes the road trip Saturday with a match against Wisconsin-Parkside. The Norse will then compete at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Challenge Oct. 15-16 in Aurora, Ill.

NKU posted a 4-0 record last week, taking GLVC matches from Drury and Rockhurst and non-conference contests against Robert Morris and Urbana.

DOMINATING AT THE NET: Sophomore middle hitter Shelby Buschur led NKU to the wins against Drury and Rockhurst by recording 36 kills and attacking at a .491 clip. Buschur finished with 24 kills and a .606 hitting percentage in a four-set win against Drury. She capped the GLVC weekend sweep with 12 kills and eight blocks against Rockhurst in another four-set victory. On Sunday, she added 15 kills in the pair of wins against Robert Morris and Urbana.

Buschur leads the GLVC in kills per set at 3.86. She is hitting .322 entering the weekend.

ASSIST TO SCHREIVER: NKU sophomore setter Jenna Schreiver leads the GLVC in assists at 10.96. Schreiver's ability to run the offense has elevated NKU to No. 1 in the GLVC in hitting percentage at .269.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST LEWIS: On Oct. 10, 2009, Lewis posted a four-set win against NKU at Highland Heights, Ky. Stephanie Sagat hammered down 16 kills and attacked at a .441 clip to lead Lewis.

Noelle Peterson finished with 18 kills and a .419 hitting percentage to lead NKU. The Norse managed to hit just .105 as a team.

NKU leads the all-time series with Lewis, 30-16.
