Torrid-shooting NKU men roll to 103-58 victory against UC-Clermont on Sunday night

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University closed out the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule Sunday night with a 103-58 victory against UC-Clermont in The Bank of Kentucky Center.

Six players scored in double figures for NKU, which improved to 7-2. The Norse buried 15 shots from 3-point range – 11 in the first half - and remained unbeaten (8-0) in the all-time series against UC-Clermont.

Corey Sorrell scored 14 points off the bench for NKU. Sorrell also contributed three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 19 minutes of action. Malcolm Eleby added 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for NKU. As a team, the Norse dished out a season-high 28 assists.

NKU built a 56-25 halftime lead and coasted in the second half. The Norse shot 61.3 percent from the field in the first half and were 11-for-18 from 3-point range before intermission.

Bobby Shannon and Chris Knight each scored 12, while Tony Rack (11 points) and Erik Stenger (10 points) also reached double figures for the Norse. NKU shot 55.9 percent from the field and held UC-Clermont (5-6) to just 35.3 percent shooting.

A year ago in The Bank of Kentucky Center, NKU survived a UC-Clermont upset attempt by pulling out a 91-89 victory in overtime.

Josh Tabb dished out nine assists for NKU, while Jon Van Hoose added nine points. All 12 NKU players dented the scoring column. Travis Donald led UC-Clermont with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Sunday's game also served as a benefit function for Norse standout guard Dustin Maguire, who has been battling cancer. Proceeds from the game will be used to assist Maguire in his fight against cancer. Wristbands were sold and several prizes were raffled off during the game.

Maguire and his father were also recognized prior to Sunday's game.

NKU returns to action Dec. 29 by hosting Glenville State at 1 p.m. The Norse then resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play Jan. 2 with a road game at Quincy.
