HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team will begin the upcoming season with a two-game trip to Florida with contests against Lynn (Fla.) and Nova Southeastern.

NKU, which earned its fifth consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament last season en route to a 20-10 overall record, meets Lynn on Nov. 12 in Boca Raton, Fla. Lynn posted a 19-11 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

On Nov. 13, NKU meets Nova Southeastern (11-17 last season) to conclude the two-game trip in Florida.

A week before departing for Florida, NKU meets Cincinnati in an exhibition game on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. The Norse defeated the Bearcats two years ago in Cincinnati in their last exhibition game.

“This is going to be a challenging schedule early in the season because we have so many young players, but it will get us ready for the conference,” NKU head coach Nancy Winstel said. “Cincinnati is going to some very talented players, and that is going to be a learning experience for our new players. Lynn and Nova Southeastern are excellent teams, so we don't have any easy games at all.”

NKU meets both Charleston (W.Va.) and Lake Erie during a two-day tournament at Bellarmine Nov. 19-20. The Norse play their home opener Nov. 23 against Georgetown (Ky.) in The Bank of Kentucky Center.

NKU begins Great Lakes Valley Conference play Dec. 2 by meeting East Division rival Southern Indiana in The Bank of Kentucky Center. Two days later, Indianapolis visits NKU for a GLVC East Division showdown.

Southern Indiana and Indianapolis each earned berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament last season.

NKU plays its first GLVC road game Jan. 2 at Quincy. Two days later, the Norse travel to Romeoville, Ill., to meet Lewis.

NKU welcomes back two starters in 2010-11. Junior guard Casse Mogan averaged a team-leading 16.7 points per game and earned All-GLVC honors last season. Junior forward Sadie Bowling averaged 8.1 points and 6.1 rebounds.

The Norse have also added five newcomers for the 2010-11 season, with three freshmen and two transfers.
