ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
Sadie Bowling collected her second double-double of the season Tuesday night as the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team posted a 55-45 victory over Lewis in the Neil Carey Arena.
Bowling finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds as NKU improved to 9-3 overall, 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The junior forward made all four of her attempts from 3-point range as the Norse defeated Lewis for the eighth consecutive time.
Lewis has not beaten NKU since Jan. 6, 2007. The Norse are now 45-6 all-time against the Flyers, including a 20-5 mark on the road.
Lewis (6-6 overall, 2-2 GLVC) led by as many as seven points in the first half, but NKU used a 21-9 run to take a 26-21 advantage at the break. Bowling buried two consecutive 3-pointers late in the half to give the Norse their five-point halftime edge.
Jaimie Hamlet added 11 points and five assists for NKU, which led the entire second half. The Norse held Lewis to 32.8 percent shooting from the field and allowed the Flyers to make just 11.1 percent (2-for-18) of their 3-point attempts.
Labrenthia Murdock scored 16 points to lead Lewis, while Jenny Turpel added 15 points and nine rebounds. NKU leading scorer
Casse Mogan was held to nine points, snapping her streak of games in double-figure scoring at 10.
Mogan entered Tuesday night averaging 17.8 points per game. She dished out three assists and added three steals against Lewis.
Kendra Caldwell blocked four shots for the Norse, while
Ellen Holton came off the bench and scored seven points.
NKU returns home to meet Rockhurst at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
