Buschur hits .636 with 15 kills, No. 14 NKU cruises past Saint Joseph's on Saturday

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Shelby Buschur hammered down 15 kills and hit .636 to lead Northern Kentucky University past Saint Joseph's in a Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon.

Jenna Ruble added seven kills and attacked at a .400 clip as NKU coasted to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 victory. The Norse, ranked 14th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, limited Saint Joseph's to a .134 hitting percentage and improved to 22-4 overall, 12-4 in the GLVC.

NKU setter Jenna Schreiver dished out 38 assists and recorded nine digs. Schreiver also collected her 3,500th career assist in the first set and now has a total of 3,528, which is fourth in school history.

Sarah Drennen finished with six kills and 13 digs as NKU improved to 39-5 all-time against Saint Joseph's (10-15 overall, 3-13 GLVC). The Norse have beaten the Pumas 20 consecutive times during the past 11 seasons.

Saint Joseph's has not defeated NKU since Nov. 3, 2000, when the Pumas pulled out a five-set decision at Rensselaer, Ind.

Junior libero Kylee Tarantino led the NKU defense with 14 digs and she added three service aces. Tarantino now has 1,042 career digs.

NKU closes out the regular season next weekend with GLVC home contests against Southern Indiana (7 p.m. Friday) and Kentucky Wesleyan (3 p.m. Saturday). The Norse's three seniors – Drennen, Kim Nemcek and Noelle Peterson – will be honored before the Southern Indiana match on Friday.

The GLVC Tournament begins Nov. 11 at the site of the No. 1 seed. The winner of the GLVC Tournament receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

NKU, which is currently No. 2 in the Midwest Region poll, is seeking its second straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
