No. 13 NKU volleyball travels west to meet William Jewell, Rockhurst in GLVC matches

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team travels west this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches, beginning Saturday with a 6 p.m. contest at William Jewell.

NKU concludes the road trip Sunday with a 2 p.m. match at Rockhurst. The Norse, 13-2 overall and 7-2 in the GLVC, are ranked 13th nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll.

William Jewell is 9-5 overall, 5-4 in the GLVC. Rockhurst is 7-9 overall, 4-5 in the GLVC.

NKU is 1-0 all-time against William Jewell. The Norse are 4-4 in the all-time series with Rockhurst.

NEARING 1,000: Senior middle hitter Kim Nemcek enters this weekend with 965 career kills at NKU. She is looking to become the 15th player in Norse history to reach the 1,000-kills club. NKU senior Noelle Peterson recorded her 1,000th career kill earlier this season.

Nemcek is also fourth in the latest national statistics in hitting percentage at .474.

SETTING THE TABLE: NKU junior setter Jenna Schreiver is No. 3 in the nation at 12.22 assists per set. With Schreiver quarterbacking the offense, the Norse are No. 6 nationally in hitting percentage at .314.

OTHER MILESTONES: NKU senior outside hitter Sarah Drennen enters this weekend with 831 career kills. Norse junior libero Kylee Tarantino has collected 864 career digs going into this weekend. NKU senior outside hitter Noelle Peterson has 1,103 career kills and is closing in on 13th place in Norse history. Colleen Kaufman is currently 13th in Norse history with 1,116 career kills.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST WILLIAM JEWELL: On Sept. 25, 2010, NKU posted a 25-16, 25-23, 25-16 win against William Jewell in a non-conference match in St. Louis, Mo. Peterson led NKU with 10 kills and hit .500. Tarantino added 20 digs for the Norse, who limited William Jewell to a .069 hitting percentage.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST ROCKHURST: On Oct. 2, 2010, NKU attacked at a .323 clip for the match and posted a 25-15, 15-25, 25-23, 25-19 victory against Rockhurst in Regents Hall. Gennie Galfano led the way for NKU with 16 kills and a .667 hitting percentage. Galfano converted the 16 kills in 24 attempts with no errors.
