Jenna Schreiver dished out 33 assists and served up two aces Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team swept past Rockhurst by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-19.
Schreiver also hit .333 with three kills, added five digs and a block solo as NKU improved to 15-2 overall, 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The 13th-ranked Norse limited Rockhurst (7-11 overall, 4-7 GLVC) to a .160 hitting percentage as
Shelby Buschur finished with five block assists and
Gennie Galfano added a solo block and three block assists.
NKU held a 22-21 lead in the opening set, but two straight kills by
Kim Nemcek extended the Norse advantage to 24-21. Nemcek recorded nine kills and attacked at a .471 clip for the match. She also added 10 digs and a solo block.
Nemcek, who entered the week fourth nationally in hitting percentage at .474, now has 984 career kills at NKU. She is looking to become the 15th player in Norse history to reach the 1,000-kills club.
Sarah Drennen hammered down a team-leading 12 kills for NKU, which hit .231 for the match.
Kylee Tarantino finished with 16 digs and served up two aces, while teammate
Noelle Peterson added seven kills.
Tarantino, a junior libero from Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, upped her career digs total to 896.
NKU is now 5-4 all-time against Rockhurst. The Norse are 3-1 all-time against the Hawks on the road, 0-2 at neutral sites and 2-1 in Regents Hall.
NKU will compete in the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover next Friday and Saturday in Aurora, Ill. The Norse are the No. 2 seed from the GLVC and will meet GLIAC No. 5 seed Ashland at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the opener.
NKU also plays GLIAC No. 1 seed Ferris State at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The Norse wrap up the two-day event Saturday at 1 p.m. by meeting GLIAC No. 3 seed Northern Michigan.
