HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University held Ohio Dominican to 22.2 percent shooting from the field and cruised to a 61-32 victory Thursday night in the NKU Classic.
Casse Mogan finished with 16 points and five assists to lead NKU, which improved to 7-2. Mogan also added three steals and four rebounds as the Norse extended their winning streak to three.
Ellen Holton and
Melody Doss each added 11 points for the Norse, who limited Ohio Dominican (5-6) to 13 points in the second half. The Panthers, in fact, made just three field goals the entire second half.
NKU built a 30-19 halftime lead by shooting 52 percent from the field. Mogan netted 12 points in the first half, while Holton and Doss each scored seven.
The Norse scored the first eight points of the second half to build a 38-19 lead. Ohio Dominican went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal to begin the second half and never recovered.
NKU finished with nine blocked shots as
Tiara Hopper collected three rejections. Hopper also added six points and five rebounds. Holton grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds, while
Sadie Bowling added six boards and two blocks.
NKU finished with a 37-27 edge on the glass and forced 18 turnovers. The Norse finished at 49 percent from the field.
Meredith Fox scored 19 points to lead Ohio Dominican, which lost its sixth consecutive game. NKU is now 2-0 all-time against the Panthers.
NKU plays Hillsdale (5-5) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the finale of the two-day classic. Hillsdale dropped a 66-56 decision to No. 8 Edinboro (Pa.) in the other contest Thursday.
