Cold-shooting NKU women drop 54-47 decision at Drury on Sunday afternoon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A tough road trip ended on a sour note for the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team Sunday during a 54-47 loss to Drury in the O'Reilly Event Center.

NKU shot just 27.7 percent from the field and dropped to 14-8 overall, 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Casse Mogan scored 17 points for NKU, which has lost five consecutive road games against GLVC opponents.

Mogan, a junior guard from Circleville, Ohio, now has 971 career points and is 27th on the NKU all-time scoring list. Jessie Slack is 26th in Norse history with 1,006 career points.

Ellen Holton added 13 points for the Norse, who are 2-7 on the road this season. On Friday night, NKU fell at Missouri S&T, 67-60, in two overtimes.

Drury made just 36.6 percent of its shots from the field, but the Lady Panthers used a 9-0 run late in the second half to turn a 39-36 deficit into a 45-39 advantage. Ja'Nell Jones capped the spurt with a conventional three-point play with 5:05 remaining.

Jones finished with 12 points and six assists for Drury, which improved to 15-7 overall, 11-3 in the GLVC. Bethanie Funderburk scored 13 points as Drury evened the all-time series against NKU at 5-5.

NKU plays host to Kentucky Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
