INDIANAPOLIS – A sizzling offensive performance by Northern Kentucky University's
Kim Nemcek highlighted a pair of Norse victories Sunday afternoon at the Indianapolis Invitational.
Nemcek slammed down 19 kills and attacked at a .630 clip as NKU posted a 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 win over Florida Tech in the opener. The senior middle hitter also added nine digs in that victory.
Nemcek capped the day by collecting 11 kills and hitting .769 as NKU coasted past Saginaw Valley State, 25-12, 25-17, 25-17. The Norse finished 4-0 in the season-opening tournament and did not drop a set in the four victories.
During the four wins this weekend, Nemcek attacked at a .521 clip and averaged 3.83 kills per set. She also had 28 digs and four blocks.
Noelle Peterson enjoyed a big afternoon Sunday with 19 total kills in the two matches. She also recorded her 1,000th career kill by converting an attack in the second set against Saginaw Valley State off an assist from
Jenna Schreiver.
Peterson finished with 11 kills and attacked at a .375 clip in the win over Saginaw Valley State. The senior outside hitter is the 14th player in Norse history to reach 1,000 career kills.
Schreiver totaled 69 assists in the two wins on Sunday and directed the Norse offense to a .410 hitting percentage against Florida Tech. NKU wrapped up the day by attacking at a .361 clip against Saginaw Valley State.
Shelby Buschur hammered down 16 kills in the two matches, and she joined Nemcek and Schreiver on the all-tournament team.
Sarah Drennen added 14 kills against Florida Tech and another six in the win over Saginaw Valley State.
Kylee Tarantino anchored the NKU back row and collected 25 digs in the two wins. Schreiver added 17 digs on Sunday, including 10 against Florida Tech.
NKU plays its home opener Wednesday night when Charleston (W.Va.) visits Regents Hall at 7 p.m. The Norse begin Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday night at 7 p.m. against Saint Joseph's in Regents Hall.
