NKU women take six-game win streak into Thursday showdown at No. 24 Missouri S&T

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team travels west this week for key Great Lakes Valley Conference games at Missouri S&T and Drury.

NKU, which has won six consecutive games, opens the trip Thursday night at Missouri S&T. The Norse are 10-2 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC. Missouri S&T is 10-2 overall, 5-0 in the GLVC. The Lady Miners are ranked 24th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.

THE SERIES: NKU owns a 9-2 lead in the all-time series with Missouri S&T. A year ago, the Lady Miners held off the Norse in two overtimes, 67-60, at Rolla, Mo.

On Saturday, NKU plays at Drury (9-4 overall, 4-1 GLVC). That series is tied at 5-all.

NEARING 800: NKU enters this week with an all-time record of 798-302 in women's basketball. Norse head coach Nancy Winstel has recorded 625 of those victories.

MIGHTY MO: Casse Mogan scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead NKU to a 52-47 victory over Rockhurst last Saturday. The senior guard also finished 12-for-12 at the free-throw line in that contest.

Mogan moved past both Jennifer Lyons and Angela Healy into 16th place on the NKU all-time scoring list with 1,280 career points. She also added two steals and a pair of blocked shots in that victory.

Mogan averages 16.4 points per game and is shooting 51.1 percent from the field. She has also converted 82 percent of her free throws.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: During its current six-game winning streak, NKU has held the opposition to less than 50 points in each contest. The Norse defense allows just 47.6 points per game, which is No. 1 nationally in NCAA Division II.

NKU is allowing opponents to shoot just 32.2 percent from the field, which leads the GLVC. The Norse are also No. 1 in the GLVC in scoring margin at +15.8 ppg.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST MISSOURI S&T: On Feb. 4, 2011, Missouri S&T opened the second overtime with a 13-3 run and held on for a 67-60 victory against NKU at Rolla, Mo.

Fareedah Washington scored seven points in the second overtime to spark Missouri S&T. Washington finished with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Hailee Parks and Julie Meyer each finished with 15 points for the Lady Miners.

With NKU trailing by three points late in regulation, Ellen Holton made a 3-pointer with 12.6 seconds remaining to tie the game at 48-all. Missouri S&T had the final possession, but the Lady Miners were unable to get off a shot before the buzzer.

Casse Mogan, who scored 27 points, made a pair of free throws with 11.4 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the game at 54-all. Missouri S&T missed a chance to win.

AT ROLLA: NKU is 2-2 all-time against Missouri S&T on the road. The Norse posted road wins against the Lady Miners in 1997 (73-58) and 2006 (62-50). Missouri S&T owns home wins against NKU in 2008 (66-42) and 2011 (67-60 in double overtime).

THE LAST TIME AGAINST DRURY: On Feb. 6, 2011, NKU shot just 27.2 percent from the field during a 54-47 loss to Drury in the O'Reilly Event Center. Casse Mogan led NKU with 17 points.

AT SPRINGFIELD: NKU is 3-2 all-time against Drury on the road. The Norse have beaten the Lady Panthers on the road in 2007, '08 (NCAA regional) and '09.
