Mogan, Bennett lead Norse women to 59-44 win over Lewis on Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Casse Mogan and Maria Bennett combined for 31 points to lead Northern Kentucky University to a 59-44 win over Lewis on Saturday.

Mogan finished with 19 points and five rebounds as NKU improved to 13-4 overall, 6-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Bennett added 12 points for the Norse, who are 46-6 all-time against Lewis.

Bennett buried a trio of 3-pointers in the first half to help NKU build a 24-20 lead at the break. In the second half, NKU made 54.2 percent of its shots from the field en route to defeating Lewis for the ninth consecutive time.

Mogan keyed the second half by netting 13 points, and the senior guard also finished with three assists and three steals. She now has 1,365 career points and is 10th on the NKU all-time scoring list.

Melissa Wood is No. 9 in Norse history with 1,393 career points.

The Norse held Lewis (4-13, 2-7 GLVC) to one point during the final five minutes of the game and improved to 25-1 all-time at home against the Flyers. The lone Lewis road victory against NKU took place on Dec. 19, 1996, when the Flyers posted a 54-49 win against the Norse in Regents Hall.

Since that Lewis victory in 1996, NKU has defeated the Flyers 14 consecutive times at home.

Ellen Holton and Jaimie Hamlet each scored seven points for NKU, while teammate Tiara Hopper added six points and eight rebounds. Sadie Bowling pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Norse, who won the battle of the glass by a 35-29 margin.

NKU plays host to Kentucky Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
