NKU women travel north to play Lewis on Thursday, No. 24 UW-Parkside on Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Now tied for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division standings, the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team travels north for a key road trip this week.

NKU visits Romeoville, Ill., on Thursday to take on Lewis. The Norse enter that game with a 15-4 overall record, including an 8-3 mark in the GLVC. Lewis is 4-15 overall, 2-9 in the GLVC.

NKU, which has won three straight games, is tied with Indianapolis and Wisconsin-Parkside for first place in the East Division. The Norse meet No. 24 Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday in a first-place showdown at Somers, Wis.

NKU/LEWIS SERIES: NKU owns a 46-6 lead in the all-time series against Lewis and has won the last nine meetings with the Flyers. The Norse are 20-5 all-time against the Flyers in the Neil Carey Arena.

Earlier this season, NKU posted a 59-44 win over Lewis in The Bank of Kentucky Center. Lewis has not beaten NKU since Jan. 6, 2007.

NKU/UWP SERIES: NKU is 25-9 all-time against Wisconsin-Parkside, but the Rangers have beaten the Norse three straight times. The Norse are 9-7 all-time in DeSimone Gymnasium against Wisconsin-Parkside, but the Rangers have posted home wins against NKU in each of the past three years.

Wisconsin-Parkside held NKU to a school-record low 23.9 percent from the field during a 44-36 win over the Norse a year ago.

CHILLY VENUE: In the last two visits to Somers, Wis., NKU has been held to 36 points - tied for the lowest point total in Norse history - in each loss. Earlier this season in the perfect weather of Hawaii, Northeastern (Okla.) State also limited NKU to 36 points, tying the Norse record previously set in Somers, Wis. 

CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Casse Mogan has 1,386 career points and is 10th on the NKU all-time scoring list. Melissa Wood is No. 9 in Norse history with 1,393 career points.

Mogan leads NKU in scoring at 15.9 points per game. She has scored in double figures 17 times this season and also leads the team in assists (60) and steals (38).

SWISH!: NKU senior guard Maria Bennett drained six 3-pointers against Southern Indiana last Saturday as the Norse posted a 64-52 win over the Screaming Eagles in Evansville, Ind. Bennett finished with 18 points in that win.

For the season, Bennett leads NKU in 3-pointers made (45) and averages 8.4 points per game.

DON'T TAKE IT INSIDE: NKU is tied with Indianapolis atop the GLVC statistics in blocked shots with an average of 5.21 rejections per game. The Norse's Sadie Bowling (17 blocks), Ellen Holton (16), Tiara Hopper (16) and Kelsey Simpson (13) are four of the GLVC's top 15 shot-blockers. NKU has a total of 99 blocks going into Thursday's game at Lewis.

REBOUNDING MACHINE: NKU's Sadie Bowling is No. 3 in the GLVC in rebounding at 8.4 boards per game. Bowling collected a career-high 18 rebounds last week during a win against Kentucky Wesleyan. The senior forward leads the GLVC in defensive rebounds (5.89 per game).

THE LAST TIME AGAINST LEWIS: Earlier this season on Jan. 21, Casse Mogan and Maria Bennett combined for 31 points to lead NKU to a 59-44 win over Lewis. Mogan finished with 19 points and five rebounds, and Bennett added 12 points.

Bennett buried a trio of 3-pointers in the first half to help NKU build a 24-20 lead at the break. The Norse held Lewis to one point during the final five minutes of the game and improved to 25-1 all-time at home against the Flyers.
