HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - When Northern Kentucky University played Saint Joseph's earlier this season to open conference play, it took three overtimes and a record-breaking performance by
Casse Mogan for the Norse to pull out the victory.
This time, the game was decided in regulation and the Pumas once again failed to find an answer for Mogan as NKU coasted to a 69-55 victory on Saturday afternoon in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
Mogan (left) scored 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Norse, who improved to 18-5 overall, 11-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. She also collected five steals, three blocks and two assists. She finished 11-for-17 from the floor.
Earlier this season in Rensselaer, Ind., Mogan poured in a school-record 37 points during a 106-101 triple-overtime win against Saint Joseph's. During the two contests this season against the Pumas, Mogan combined for 66 points and 22 rebounds. Last season, she finished with 20 points in the only game between the two teams.
Mogan now has 1,476 career points, which is seventh in school history. Linda Honigford is currently sixth on the NKU all-time scoring list with 1,482 points.
Tiara Hopper (right) added 13 points and five rebounds for NKU on Saturday. She also finished with a blocked shot and an assist.
The Norse took advantage of 50 percent shooting in the second half to pull away from the Pumas after taking a 31-28 lead into the half.
NKU's defense limited Saint Joseph's to 37.3 percent from the floor for the game and forced 13 turnovers. The Norse won the rebounding battle by a 39-31 margin.
Sadie Bowling finished with eight points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Kelsey Simpson added eight points and six rebounds, while Jamie Hamlet contributed six points.
Tatiana Ortiz led Saint Joseph's with 11 points, while Montrell Mills added 10 points.
NKU has now beaten Saint Joseph's 18 consecutive times at home and owns a 42-13 lead in the all-time series. The Pumas fell to 13-10 overall, 7-8 in the GLVC with the loss.
The Norse will travel to Owensboro, Ky., on Thursday night to face Kentucky Wesleyan at 6:15 p.m. NKU returns home next Saturday to meet Southern Indiana at 1 p.m.
