HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – For the second straight year, Northern Kentucky University faces Kentucky Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

NKU (21-5) and Kentucky Wesleyan (21-6) play at 1 p.m. (Eastern time) Friday. The GLVC Tournament is being held in Springfield, Ill., and played in the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

A year ago, Kentucky Wesleyan eliminated NKU from the GLVC Tournament by posting a 91-89 overtime win over the Norse in the quarterfinals. Two years ago in the semifinals, the Panthers also knocked NKU out of the GLVC Tournament with an 81-76 victory over the Norse.

THE SERIES: Kentucky Wesleyan owns a 46-34 lead in the all-time series with NKU. The teams split two games this season, with the visiting squad winning each time. Kentucky Wesleyan posted a 74-57 win at NKU on Jan. 26, and the Norse were later victorious in Owensboro, Ky., on Feb. 16, 67-55.

TOUGH TOURNEY FOE: NKU and Kentucky Wesleyan have met four times (1999, 2001, 2010 and 2011) in the GLVC Tournament, and the Panthers have won all four games.

In last year's meeting, Kentucky Wesleyan's Anthony Young poured in a GLVC Tournament-record 36 points as the Panthers edged NKU in overtime, 91-89.

On Feb. 26, 1999, Kentucky Wesleyan set several GLVC Tournament records during a 111-70 win over NKU in Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind. The 111 points are the most ever scored in a GLVC Tournament game, and the Panthers also netted 43 field goals in that victory, the most in GLVC Tournament history.

GLVC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: NKU is 17-12 all-time in the GLVC Tournament. A year ago, NKU defeated Quincy in the first round and lost to Kentucky Wesleyan in the quarterfinals in St. Louis, Mo.

The Norse have won GLVC Tournament championships in 2003 and 2009.

In 2003, the Norse defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, Southern Indiana and Lewis en route to their first-ever GLVC Tournament championship at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind.

In 2009, NKU defeated Saint Joseph's, Rockhurst and Bellarmine to capture the title in the PAC Arena in Evansville, Ind. NKU's Leslie Malone blocked a GLVC-record 15 shots in the event, including eight rejections against Bellarmine in the championship game, and was named the tournament's most valuable player.

HUGE CROWD, TOUGH LOSS: The second-largest crowd (5,249) to ever attend an NKU basketball game inside The Bank of Kentucky Center watched Bellarmine cruise to an 86-75 win over the Norse on Feb. 23. That marked the final regular-season GLVC game for NKU, which is joining the Atlantic Sun Conference next season.

The largest crowd to ever watch NKU in The Bank of Kentucky Center is 5,319 on Jan. 23, 2010, during a 74-69 loss to Bellarmine.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST KWC: On Feb. 16 in Owensboro, Ky., Eshaunte Jones scored 15 points as NKU posted a 67-55 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. Chad Jackson and DeAndre Nealy each added 11 points for the Norse.

Nealy also finished with three blocked shots and five rebounds, while Jackson grabbed nine rebounds. The Norse built a 39-26 halftime lead by shooting 51.7 percent from the field. Nealy scored eight in the first half, while Jones netted seven points.
