MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior setter
Jenna Schreiver became just the third player in Northern Kentucky University volleyball history to reach 4,000 career assists as the unbeaten Norse (6-0) swept Alabama A&M on Friday.
Schreiver finished with 42 assists to lead NKU to a 25-20, 28-26, 25-22 victory at the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational. The Notre Dame Academy graduate now has 4,021 career assists, joining Molly Donovan (4,971) and Andrea Lanham (4,726) as the only Norse in the 4,000-assists club.
Shelby Buschur hammered down 15 kills and served up four aces to lead the way against Alabama A&M.
Haley Lippert added 12 kills for the Norse, who knocked off host Morehead State earlier in the day.
NKU fought off a pair of Alabama A&M set points in the second stanza to pull out a 28-26 win.
Gennie Galfano tied the set at 24-all with a kill, and an Alabama A&M attacking error later evened the score at 25-all.
Back-to-back attacking errors by Alabama A&M eventually gave NKU a 28-26 victory in the second set, and the Norse cruised to a 25-22 win in the third to wrap up the sweep.
Kylee Tarantino finished with 19 digs for NKU, which limited Alabama A&M (0-6) to a .101 hitting percentage. It marked the first-ever meeting between NKU and Alabama A&M in volleyball.
NKU closes out the two-day event Saturday with a match against Evansville. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m.
