MACON, Ga. – Northern Kentucky University's Kelly Morrissey turned in her seventh double-double of the season, contributing 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the NKU volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) victory over Mercer in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

With the win, NKU improved to 15-2 overall and 3-1 in A-Sun play, taking over sole possession of third place in the league standings.

The Norse were also led offensively by Haley Lippert, who had eight kills, while Shelby Buschur and Jenna Ruble each added seven.  Kylee Tarantino led the way defensively with 21 digs, while Jenna Schreiver set up 36 assists on the night.

Tarantino now has 1,430 career digs and is No. 4 in Norse history in that category.

An 8-2 run in Set 1, keyed by six Mercer (6-8, 2-2 A-Sun) attack errors, made the difference in Set 1.  Morrissey picked up six of her match-high 13 kills in the opening stanza.  Set 2 saw the teams stay neck-and-neck through an 18-17 score before the Norse ripped off a 6-1 run to get to set point.  The Bears were not done, however, rallying back four points before Jayden Julian knocked home the set winner.

Buschur got two kills and two of her three blocks as part of a 6-1 run in Set 3 that pushed the score to a 16-11, favoring NKU.  Mercer would get the gap no closer than three points, at 18-15, through the rest of the match.

NKU closes out the road weekend with a Saturday matinee at Kennesaw State.  First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be available to view for free on ASun.TV.
