NKU volleyball takes four-set win at Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team put four players in double-figures for kills in posting a come-from-behind four-set victory over South Carolina Upstate in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday night.
 
Jayden Julian led the Norse (11-17, 6-9 A-Sun) with 13 kills and 12 digs, marking her eighth double-double of the season.  Tristen Simpson followed up with 12 kills while attacking at a .458 clip.  Jenna Ruble had 11 kills and posted four blocks, and Megan Wanstrath added 10 kills.
 
Defensively, Anna Prickel led the Norse with 22 digs.  Prickel now stands just five digs shy of passing Liz Hart and Kristen Koralewski for eighth on the NKU career digs list. Kaela Jo Freppon added 15 digs and Mel Stewart was also in double figures with 13 digs.
 
Taylor Snyder added 49 assists to drive the Norse offense.
 
After dropping Set 1 by a 25-15 score, NKU rallied to take the next three sets, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21.  Set 3 was marked by an early 13-4 run that was started by a Ruble block and included three kills each by Ruble and Julian.  The Norse hit .542 in that third set and posted a .238 attack percentage on the match.
 
Kayla Eversgerd had 15 kills to lead USC Upstate, which fell to 4-21 overall and 2-12 in A-Sun play.
 
NKU concludes its final road trip of the 2013 season on Saturday afternoon at East Tennessee State.  First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
