RICHMOND, Ky. –
Jody Maginley picked up his third singles victory of the season as the Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback against Eastern Kentucky on Friday evening.
Maginley bested EKU's Sebastian Mueller, coming back from a 6-4 loss in Set 1 to post scores of 6-1, 7-5 to take the No. 3 singles match.
Mate Virag took a 6-3 win in Set 1 of the top flight match, but EKU's Alex Alvaro came back for a 6-4 win in Set 2 and held on through a tiebreak to win the match, 7-6.
In doubles play, Virag and
Christopher Angulo had a 5-4 lead on Alvaro and Juanjo de la Llera before the top-flight match was halted with EKU claiming the doubles point.
The win pushed Eastern Kentucky to 5-3 on the year, while NKU fell to 1-4 on the season.
The Norse will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday morning when they take on Samford in Richmond, Kentucky. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
