CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team saw success in doubles play, but came up just short in a 4-3 decision against Dayton on Saturday evening.
Two first-time Norse pairings picked up wins in doubles play, as
Mate Virag and
Christopher Angulo teamed up to defeat Zach Berry and Carsten Fischer, 7-6 (7-5), in the top flight, while
Jody Maginley and
Nick Lang bested Aidan Koros and Kyle MacDonald, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.
Angulo picked up his third singles victory of the season, taking a 6-2, 6-4 win over Fischer at the No. 2 flight, while
Jack Carney leveled his season record to 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Simon Jayaram at No. 5 singles.
Dayton claimed the remaining four singles flights to take the match, as each match finished in straight sets. With the loss, NKU fell to 0-2 on the season, while Dayton improved to 5-3 overall.
The Norse return to action on Wednesday to take on Thomas More at Five Seasons Sports Club. First serve is set for 8 p.m.
