Men's Tennis opens three-match homestand on Wednesday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team is back to action this week with three matches at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex. The Norse will entertain regional foe Wright State on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. before returning to Atlantic Sun Conference play for the weekend.
 
The Norse will take on Kennesaw State on Thursday for an 11 a.m. start before closing out the weekend on Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. start against USC Upstate.
 
The Norse enter this three-match homestand with a 5-8 overall record and an 0-3 mark in A-Sun play after going 1-2 in last week's trip to the Sunshine State, picking up a 4-2 win over Bethune-Cookman in the process. Christopher Angulo picked up a pair of singles wins on the weekend, including a 10-4 super tiebreaker victory over FGCU's Tinyau Bao in a 6-1 loss for the Norse.
 
A WORD ABOUT WRIGHT STATE: The Raiders are 8-13 on the year after picking up a 4-3 win over Vincennes to snap a four-match losing streak. Lauri Makikalli has been WSU's most successful singles player, posting a 12-2 record playing primarily in the bottom of the lineup. Dan Gilbert has four wins in the top flight to aid a 7-13 overall record.  In doubles play Gilbert and Miles Harris combine for a 5-3 record at No. 3, while Makikalli and Andrew Connolly are 4-0 in doubles.
 
A WORD ABOUT KENNESAW STATE: The Owls enter the weekend with a 5-10 overall record and an 0-3 mark in A-Sun play, having dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to a nationally ranked Georgia Tech squad on Sunday. Simon Pritchard is the Owls' top-flight player, boasting a 16-8 record on the year, including a 9-5 mark this spring. Jake Bouchillion has 11 wins on the season in the middle of the KSU lineup. In doubles play, Pritchard and Jorge Wilton are 8-1 on the year, including a 5-0 mark at No. 3, while David Durham and Drew Wendel have six wins as the Owls' top pair.
 
A WORD ABOUT USC UPSTATE: The Spartans are 3-15 on the season, including a 1-2 mark in the A-Sun after a 4-1 win over Stetson to open conference play. Ramon Simonetti is 8-10 in the top flight for the Spartans, including a pair of wins over A-Sun competition. Ignacio Garrido has six wins in singles play as well, all coming at No. 4. In doubles play, Garrido and Matt Bennion are 6-4 at the No. 3 flight, while Simonetti and Jamie Yates have picked up four wins in the top flight.
 
UP NEXT: The Norse hit the road on Tuesday, April 7, to take on a No. 23-ranked Louisville squad. First serve is set for noon.
