CLEVELAND – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team cruised to a 1-0 shutout victory over Cleveland State on Saturday, firing a season-high 22 shots while holding the Vikings to a season-low three shot attempts at Krenzler Field.
Katelyn Newton netted the game-winner in the 80th minute as the Norse improve to 7-5-0 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League.
"I had a lot of family and friends at the game, so it was really exciting to get my first collegiate assist assist near my hometown. Their goalkeeper was really solid and we knew we only had 10 minutes left to make a play and get the win," said sophomore defender
Taylor Spaulding.
With the result, the Vikings dip to 4-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the League.

- On NKU's 19th shot attempt of the game, Newton finally broke through the CSU goalkeeper on a header for the game-winner in the 80th minute. The goal came on a double-assist from Taylor Spaulding and Jessica Frey off a set piece.
