HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Senior midfielder
Katelyn Newton scored a goal for the third-straight match as the Northern Kentucky women's soccer team earned a 3-2 win over Youngstown State at the NKU Soccer Stadium on Saturday.

Macy Hamblin and Newton gave NKU (8-5-0, 4-1-0 Horizon) a 2-0 lead that Youngstown State (2-10-1, 0-5-0 Horizon) later erased in the second half. Junior forward
Jessica Frey netted the game winner with 10 minutes left in regulation for the Norse win.
"This match speaks to the quality of the Horizon League. You can never feel completely good about where you are in a game until the final whistle blows," said head coach
Bob Sheehan. "When Youngstown State came back, 2-2, I thought our players responded very well and created quality chances. Ally [Perkins] had a beautiful serve to Jessica [Frey] for her goal. I'm really pleased with our team and our ability to turn a victory today."
NKU Scoring Summary
- Hamblin netted her fourth goal of the season in the 18th minute on a set piece just outside the top of the 18-yard box for an early 1-0 lead.
- Newton took a pass from the far left wing and fired a shot from 25 yards out for the game's second goal in the 43rd minute. The freshmen duo of Ally Perkins and Emily Soltes were credited with the double-assist.
- Frey netted the game-winner when Perkins dished out her second assist of the game.

- Martin's second tally came in the 64th minute when she pulled Lohmann out of the goal and shot from just beyond the penalty kick spot to tie the game at 2-2.
- The game was locked in a tie for 17 minutes until Frey found the game-winner at the 81 minute mark.
Norse Notes
- NKU out-shot YSU 20-7 overall and 11-3 on goal. Northern Kentucky has reached double-figures in shot attempts in nine of its last 10 matches including 20 or more shots in each of the last two games.
- The Norse have out-shot their last two opponents 42-10 including 25-4 on goal.
- Newton has three goals in the last three games to push her season point total to nine, a single-season career high for the senior. She has fired eight shots, four of which have been on goal, in the last three games.
