HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's and women's tennis teams travel to take on Dayton on Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
The women's squad (4-5) is set to compete for the first time since they defeated Morehead State, 4-3, on Feb. 27.
In singles play,
Klara Skopac,
Sydney Power and
Nicole Soutar are each coming off a victory. Power has won three of her last four matches after competing primarily at the No. 2 singles flight.
The Norse are undefeated at 4-0 when winning the doubles point.
Power and
Sierra Nellessen have seen success in doubles play, winning two of their last three matches with victories over Morehead State and Tennessee State. The duo dropped a single game between the pair of matches at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Nicole Soutar and
Hailey Shanahan has matched Power and Nellessen's success with wins in three of the last four contests.
The men's team is coming off a 7-0 loss to a tough Louisville squad last weekend where senior
Jody Maginley had a three-match win streak snapped after falling in a super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles.
The men sit at 2-3 this season with wins over Tennessee State and Findlay at home. Similar to the women's squad, the men have consistently contested victories in doubles play.
NKU's trio of doubles teams fell by two games or less to Louisville. In the fall, the duo of Maginley and
Court Clark defeated the No. 3 doubles team from Dayton, 7-6.
Dayton's men's team sits at 12-3 and is on a seven-game win streak. The women enter Friday with a 10-5 overall record.
Following Friday's match, both squads are set to take on Horizon League foes Youngstown State on Friday, March 25 and Cleveland State on Saturday, March 26.
