MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jordan Harbacek rapped a pair of hits, including a double, as a part of nine knocks for the Northern Kentucky University softball team, but three home runs helped Memphis take a 9-1 victory over the Norse on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (15-15) got a pair of home runs from Brooke Lee and a third from Lindsey Stickrod to pace the offense. Lee opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo shot to left-center field, and followed up with a two-run shot in the fourth inning to extend the lead.
NKU got on the board in the sixth inning on an RBI-single by
Kara Meter, who drove in
Charlie Nolen as a pinch runner for Harbacek after her double to lead off the frame.
Stickrod's two-run shot to left field spurred on a five-run sixth inning for the Tigers that provided the final margin of victory.
Eight of the nine NKU starters recorded at least one hit in the contest, with Harbacek,
Dani Devlin and
Nicolette Hayes each posting extra-base hits. Harbacek (4-4) took the loss in the circle, giving up five earned runs on six hits and striking out two in 5.1 innings of work.
The win went to Katie Brignac (3-4), who scattered nine Norse hits and surrendered one run while claiming four strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Calli Irvin picked up the final two outs for the Tigers to record her second save of the season.
The two teams meet once more on Sunday to conclude the two game series. First pitch from the Memphis Softball Complex is set for noon Central (1 p.m. Eastern).
