MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team could not find a solution to Memphis pitcher Molly Smith, who pitched a three-hit shutout to defeat the Norse, 7-0, in the teams' series finale on Sunday afternoon.

Alina Maher accounted for the Norse offense on the day, each picking up singles in the contest as NKU fell to 7-17 on the season.
Jessie Lamb and Lindsay Crowdus each had a pair of hits for Memphis (16-15) as the Tigers amassed seven hits en route to their third consecutive victory.
Brooke Lee got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, driving Brittany Seale home on an RBI single to center field. The Tigers added three more runs in the second on a Lamb RBI single and a Norse throwing error which allowed two more runs to score.
An RBI double by Crowdus and another two-run error by the Norse in the fifth inning capped the scoring on the contest.
Smith (4-6) struck out eight batters, including the first four she faced in the contest, and walked just one to claim the victory for Memphis.
Charlie Nolen (3-8) took the loss for the Norse, giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks in two innings.
NKU returns to the field on Tuesday afternoon at No. 13 Kentucky. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. with the action carried live on ESPN3 and SEC Network+.
