CLEVELAND – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team posted its third-straight victory and second Horizon League win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cleveland State 4-3 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
With the victory, the Norse improve to 5-3 overall and open League play at 2-0. The Vikings dip to 10-8 overall and 0-1 in the League.
Mate Virag closed out a victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Joe VanMeter, 7-5, 6-4, as the junior improved his singles record to 6-2 this spring.
Lukas Clemens posted his second-straight League victory after defeating Colton Buffington 7-6 (8), 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Court Clark and
Nick Lang each battled through tiebreakers in their matches, coming away with victories at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Lang clinched the match with a 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Andre Mick.
The Norse return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they continue League play with a match at Valparaiso. NKU will then play League foe UIC on Sunday afternoon before visiting No. 12 Northwestern for a Sunday evening match.
