HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team concluded its regular season on Sunday, falling 7-0 to defending Horizon League champion Green Bay at Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
With the loss, NKU (8-6, 3-3 Horizon League) secures the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Horizon League Championship April 29-May 1 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The top six teams in the League advance to the tournament.
Green Bay (12-6, 5-1 Horizon League) claimed the doubles point on Sunday despite a 6-4 Norse victory at the No. 3 flight from Lukas Clemens and Adrian Isache.
In singles play, Clemens battled Florian Kraenzler in a match that went into three sets. Clemens took a 7-5 victory in the opening set before dropping a close second set 7-6 (4), and the super tiebreaker, 10-7.
At No. 1 singles, Mate Virag also fought through three sets but fell to Howard Scott, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
The Norse will take on No. 6 seeded UIC in the opening round of the Horizon League Championshipat 3 p.m. on April 29 at the Preston Robert Tisch Building on the University of Michigan campus. More information can be found on HorizonLeague.org.
